about

DS006

Following a successful run of long-form releases, Cork-based musician Jonathan Deasy lands on Decaying Spheres with his latest release, 'MV Alta'. Working under his moniker Quiet Clapping, Deasy combines modular synthesis with electric guitars, creating hypnotic loops that feel static yet simultaneously progressive.

The two long-form tracks take inspiration from the mysterious final voyage of the' ghost ship' MV Alta. The merchant's vessel washed ashore near Ballycotton, County Cork, in February 2020, after being abandoned and floating at sea unmanned for 18 months.

The title track 'MV Alta' sustains an eerie feel throughout. Haunting pulses, subtle drones, and deep low-end swells create a lucid sensation of drifting, lost with otherworldly spirits, in the expanse of the ocean.

'51.8299 N, 8.0098 W' is another slow-burner with hazy drones that flow in and out like waves breaking on the shore. Continuously, new elements build momentum as they edge to the surface, subtly forming a tension that feels like it's on the edge of collapse.
